Getting Started with Discord

How to get started with Discord for Cointelegraph Markets Pro

Cointelegraph Markets Pro isn’t just a research tool, it’s also a community. A community where you can talk about trade ideas, share insights, receive help with the platform or simply chat… and of course, get the latest information and updates from Markets Pro.

Discord lets you join different conversation channels, either on your computer or mobile device and interact with other Cointelegraph Markets Pro users.

This community interacts on an app called Discord. In addition to their availability on the Cointelegraph Markets Pro website, news events, (NewsQuakes) are also pushed through a Discord channel, allowing for customizable alerts and notifications on the go.

In addition, important VORTECS™ Score movements are also delivered via Discord.

NewsQuakes, such as real-time exchange listings, can impact asset prices. Having Discord set up with Markets Pro on your phone can help lessen the odds of missing important news and related trading opportunities.

You can allow or mute such notifications, but remember: The crypto markets trade 24/7, pausing for no-one! Timing is crucial in trading.

Getting started on Discord for computers

Using Discord on computers is similar to mobile. To download the desktop app for your operating system, click here. (You can also log in on your browser through the same link.)

Open the desktop app and sign in. If you already joined the server via mobile, you should see the server on desktop if you're logged into the same account.

If you did not create an account on a mobile device, click “Register” below the login boxes and complete the process. Then go to the Settings page on Cointelegraph Markets Pro and Login to Discord. Once you complete that login flow on Discord, you should see the server on your desktop app.

Getting started on Discord for mobile

For iOS, download Discord on the app store.

  • Open the app and click “Register” (or click “Login” if you already have a Discord account).
  • Type in the email address or phone number that you want associated with the account.
  • Choose a username, which can be your real name, a nickname or a pseudonym.
  • Choose a strong password, then input your date of birth.

Then click on the "Discord" tab in the Markets Pro dashboard it will bring you to the Settings page where you can click to login to Discord. This will bring you to a login screen on Discord.

Logging into Discord will automatically add you to the server.

The first screen you'll see is the one below — a channel called “rules,” which outlines the guidelines for participating in Cointelegraph Markets Pro on Discord.

To access the other channels, click the three lines in the upper left corner.

Some channels are “read-only” meaning you cannot comment in them. This is to keep important information for getting buried under conversation.

Other channels, such as “winning-trades,” are more discussion-based. If you are part of other servers, you can toggle between them in the column on the left. Each should have its own bubble. Some, such as Cointelegraph Markets Pro, have bubble images.

To chat directly with a user, tap the discussion box in the top left corner. You can also send direct messages to Cointelegraph Markets Pro users by tapping on their name in discussion channels and clicking “Message.”

For other mobile operating systems, such as Android, the process is similar. Simply download the app from the Google Play Store and complete the process.

Turning on notifications

You can turn on mobile notifications with Discord, which can help you catch important news and events. To turn on notifications, click your profile icon in the bottom right corner.

Scroll down and click “Notifications.”

From here, you can customize your notifications, inside of the app, as well as outside of it. Click “Get notifications outside of Discord” to adjust your settings for receiving notifications when you are not actively using Discord.

This will take you to your phone’s settings where you can turn notifications on or off. Click notifications on the next screen, and then toggle the switch to allow or disable notifications. These are called push notifications. These are notifications that alert you outside of direct Discord app use, which pop up in a fashion similar to text messages.

When you first sign into Discord, your phone will also likely ask if you would like to allow push notifications.

You can further customize your notifications by clicking the three dots in the top right corner of your channels page.

From there, click the “Notifications” tab.

You can customize your notifications as well as mute them for specific periods of time, or indefinitely if you so choose.

You can also mute specific channels if you wish. To do so, click the channel of your choice, then tap the channel’s name at the top of the page.

Click the “Notifications” tab.

Then choose for how long you would like to mute the channel.
